What we share

Five reasons to see Mongolia with your own eyes

Монголыг өөрийн нүдээр харах таван шалтгаан

The sky

Nomadic life

The ger, the five kinds of livestock, moving camp, horses, Tsagaan Sar, Naadam, and how a guest is welcomed.

History

From Gobi dinosaurs to rock art, deer stones, early nomadic states and the Mongol Empire.

Steppe & seasons

Open grassland, Gobi hills, a climate of extremes: green summers, snow and −40° winters.

From the herd

Meat, milk and white foods, airag, leather, wool, felt and cashmere: what the herd gives and how it's used.

The sky

Some of the darkest skies left on Earth

Дэлхий дээр үлдсэн хамгийн харанхуй тэнгэрийн нэг

Astronomers rate night-sky darkness on the Bortle scale, from 1 (pristine) to 9 (inner city). Most people today live under skies where the Milky Way is never visible. Far from cities, the Gobi can reach the darkest end of the scale.
